The Elementary Honor Choir is in its 12th year.  It is comprised of about 90 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students that are selected by taped audition.  Only teachers who are SDMEA members may audition their students for this select choir.  This event is being held in conjunction with All State Chorus and Orchestra and the SDMEA Conference this year. Rebecca Rasmussen is in her third year of chairing the event.  Students selected for this year's choir have the privilege of working with Charlotte Morey.  Mrs. Morey has taught elementary music since 1971, most recently in Fargo, North Dakota, until her retirement in 2008. She is presently the Artistic Director of the Red River Boy Choir.

She has conducted children’s choirs since 1989 and regularly serves as a guest conductor throughout the state of North Dakota for honor choirs of all ages. She has been on the teaching staff at the International Music Camp since 1990 and guest conductor for the Middle School Choir week since 2003.  The EHC rehearses from 8:30-3:15 on Saturday, Oct 30, 2010 and culminates with a performance that is open to the public at 3:30 pm in the Johnson Fine Arts Theater.  Auditions for next year’s EHC are due in April.  The choir roster is released online and via e-mail in mid May.  The students receive their music in late August and spend the next two months preparing for this memorable event.  Please continue to check the SDMEA website for details and registration information.

Elementary Honor Choir is a choir of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who are chosen by taped audition. Only teachers who are members of SDMEA may audition their students for the Honor Choir. You are not to audition students under a different person’s membership number.
